It is up to software whether to disable the rear panel audio output when a connector is plugged into the front panel output.
I liked the original gus more than the PNP. Another “problem” that really isn’t is that one system I built as an upgrade as opposed to the other one, which was new from scratch I attempted to reuse the two PCI video cards, as it was only used for driving a projector, but playing MP3’s with visualization or watching DVD’s caused pops and clicks in the sound.

How bad is AC97 onboard sound
On some motherboards it may be possible to disable the plug-in detection so they can work better though still not perfectly with an AC97 front panel. I am using WinXP. The only issue is that games such as GTA3 detect AC97 as “software” but this is always going to be, as onboard AC97 audio uses programmed roland etc codecs, and then gets driven by the CPU, Memory, buses etc.
If more specific information is needed, i’ve put the motherboard from a dell into a cosair graphite T, just to test the case pending the rest of my hardware.

I would suggest trying the HD audio connector first, if the rear audio output on your motherboard doesn’t work try using the AC97 connector instead.
