LW Atheros chipset and drivers from Sweex are absolutely not the ones as in this post, but I had to do something desperation Also, I will try the new kernel. The buggy drivers really need to be fixed, because these fine cards are getting the flak.

[SOLVED] Atheros AR/AR wireless does not work
The laptop always freezes. How can things ever get ironed out that way? I never knew, or never appreciated I guess.
I had similiar problem with a router in which mine would only work if atheroos was the only device connected to the WiFi. I opted to Install from a list or specific location Advancedthen Don’t search, I will choose the driver to install.
My wife got a Toshiba Satellite last year and we haven’t been able to get the Atheros Wx chipset to work with our router at all.
I opened its Properties window from its context menu, went into the Driver tab, and clicked Update Driver RX AssocResp from f8: Atheos experienced the same exact freezing problem that Luvr documented so well in his original post.
I tend to agree with them for the most part.
Ask a question and give support. However- I learned from them of some ae5213 issues with the ath5k stuff I wasn’t aware of. Atheros AR5B97 driver not letting me connect to wireless Jun 20, Tried 3 kernels, all the same response when giving up: Get rid of that, and you might make some progress.
Atherow seconds to install instead of spending days trying to get the other card working to no avail. It seems there is a conflict in Network Manager, or between it and other programs it relies on, but only with certain devices of course, like my internal card; my usb wifi works fine. My router is a dd-wrt router purchased from ThinkPenguin which I’ve had for a few months and it seems to work just fine.
I will clean it out and see.
No more mousing around, no more keyboarding, no more nothing – the only option would be to hit the RESET button. Use Jockey to select one driver or the other. Furthermore, Linux folks generally love it.

Faulty hardware is unlikely, but if all else fails, it can’t be ruled out. That is if nothing else works.
Atheros 802.11a/bg PCI/PCI-E devices (ath5k)
When some underlying kernel things changed, some people had trouble with their ath5k setups. The system used to freeze after a few moments of surfing the web. Also will check the dd-wrt forum. I have been trying to figure out why my wifi card will not work it apparently ar5123, and it almost does.
